Blurb:
From NYT and USA Today bestselling author A.L. Jackson comes an enemies-to-lovers, close-proximity, second-chance romance…
Logan Lawson won me in a bet.
The second I saw him sitting at the illegal card table, I knew I was in trouble.
Years ago, he sealed my fate and condemned me to a life I didn’t want to lead.
Yet he’s filled with untamed fury and thirsting for vengeance against the husband I hate.
Aster Costa is everything I never should have wanted.
The second she showed with her pompous, prick of a husband, I should have gotten up and walked.
But there’s no looking away from the woman who wrecked me.
Worse, I can’t stop myself from plotting to get her back.
I want nothing more than to be free of my husband.
I’m afraid Logan Lawson is the only one who can make that happen.
He might hate me for our past, but now it’s me on my knees begging for help.
Finding each other in the middle of it wasn’t supposed to be part of the bargain.
But once Logan touches me, I’m gone.
A torch is rekindled. A fire is lit.
Aster Costa has always been mine.
And this time, no matter the cost, I won’t give her back…
Never Look Back is the third, and final, book in A.L. Jackson’s Redemption Hills Series. This series follows a group of brothers who left the seedy Motorcycle Club life behind. Leaving something behind, doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t follow you into your future. The youngest brother, Logan Lawson, is about to come to this conclusion with his story, Never Look Back.
This novel is told from both Logan Lawson and Aster Costa.
Logan Lawson lost the love of his life seven years ago when she chose alliance over true love. On that one fateful night, Logan vowed to be richer and more powerful than the Costa’s. And now seven years later, he’s known for his swindling in the seedy underground gambling world. He’s rich and slightly powerful, but sometimes all the money and all the stones in the world can’t heal a broken heart.
Aster Costa was forced to make a decision that changed the path of her life and her destiny. Now, seven years later, she’s looking into the eyes of the man who single handedly forced her hand, the man who she gave her heart to, who in the end shattered it to pieces.
What happens when there’s still a fire burning between lost lovers? One of the lover’s does everything in his power to protect her, even if he doesn’t trust her. So he pushes her husband’s hand, and ultimately wins her in a poker game…. Hello drama, we meet again!!
My Thoughts:
A.L. Jackson is a master at weaving a tale of romance and suspense. She’s well known for her mystery and pulling the rug out from under her reader’s feet. And this is one of the many reason’s why I come back for more! I love the fact that this author keeps me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I’m telling you all, she slayed it with the Lawson Brothers! Pure fire, each and every one of them! I couldn’t get enough.
Never Look Back is a second chance romance with a star-crossed lovers approach. If you love forbidden romances, you may just love this one.
Logan Lawson is the youngest Lawson brother. Growing up in a world of violence, the two oldest Lawson brothers, Trent and Jud, thought they did a good job of shielding their youngest brother from their brutal past. Little did they know, Logan’s heart was wrapped up in a mess he had no business being in. Logan may be the one to walk away with the most scars. I’m gonna say, I loved the fact that this man was cocky as hell. He had the poker face on to perfection. I also loved the fact that he kept his emotions hidden. He made the mistake of letting someone in and it broke him in the end, he learned his lesson. Never again…. Or so he thought.
And then we have Aster Costa…. Aster comes from a long bloodline where the father promises the daughter off to an appropriate heir… we’re talking some medievel type shit. But when Aster falls in love with a boy below her bloodline, a boy who comes from a sinister family such as her own, she tries like hell to get her father to see she was meant to be with Logan. But as life would have it, she’s forced to make a choice that will effect the entirety of her life. My heart broke over and over again for Aster and the situation she was put into. I felt so much anger for this woman and the way she was treated within her family. The only saving grace came from her younger sister Taylor. I laughed at this woman’s antics and the conversations. I loved her vibe and now I’m sitting here wanting to know more and wanting Taylor’s story…. UGH! The never ending quandary of a reader, we are never satisfied and always searching out the next great story!
Anywho…. Back my review. I loved the fact that A.L. Jackson incorporated past moments in with the present. You see Logan and Aster met and fell in love when they were 18, they promised each other they would run away together and leave the world of crime behind. They both made promises they were unable to keep, and in some chapters we get a peek into their past and the high of a forbidden love between two teenagers. My heart loved every high and weeped during ever low. These two had the cards stacked against them from the very start.
Now, we have the present which is set seven years later. And even with a mountain of lies between them, the passion between Logan and Aster is not easy to ignore. Fate has a funny way of stepping in and righting the wrongs that come with sordid pasts. And A.L. Jackson brought fate at its finest. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit blindsided by some of the twists and turns! My heart wasn’t prepared for the onslaught of information thrown at me! There were definitely a few tears that came to the surface.
I’m going to tell it like it is, if you like Romeo and Juliet type tales… but with a happier ending, I’m pretty sure you’ll end up loving Never Look Back. And now comes the part of my review where I tell you all like it is and the reasoning behind my rating. I gave, Never Look Back by A.L. Jackson, a 4 star rating. I loved Logan and Aster’s story, but there were a few moments I wanted a bit more substance on. I’m not going to dive into details on that though, due to spoilers and all of that. Just know, I would have liked more conversation revolving around this moment in time, it felt a bit swept under the rug for my liking. I wanted more emotion.
The Redemption Hills series was amazing and I’ll always remember this series as being one of my favorites by A.L. Jackson. I loved everything from the ground-moving suspense to the heart-shattering romance. It’s going to be hard to top this series, but as always, I’m looking forward to reading more from Amy in the future! There’s never a dull moment when it comes down to this author and the tales she tells!
