Rise of a Queen is the final book in Rina Kent’s Kingdom Duet. This book is NOT a standalone, I highly suggest you read Reign of a King before diving into the second book to Jonathon King and Aurora Harper’s story.
Jonathan King has everything he could ever want in his world. He’s got the fame, the notoriety, and heirs to his throne, what more could a man want. Well, Jonathan’s about to come to the realization, life is nothing without the love of a strong and somewhat fierce woman. His life will finally be complete when Aurora accepts her position by his side. Aurora just needs to catch up to Jonathon’s timeline.
But Aurora is stubborn and lets the fear that is seated deep inside ride her through her life’s journey. When she starts receiving packages from her late sister warning her of impending threats, she doesn’t know what is false and what is reality.
And Jonathan is starting to see the mental similarities between his deceased wife and Aurora… He won’t let her fall the way Alicia fell, he’ll do everything in his power to save Aurora from the same fate her sister suffered…
My Thoughts:
Okay, it’s official! I’m a fan of Rina Kent’s FOR LIFE!! It has to be said, Rina Kent knows her way around writing suspense! I was on the edge of my seat throughout this whole novel!! The twists and turns were complete surprises to me! There were several moments when I would try to predict the outcome by going right, and she took a left hand turn out of nowhere. I couldn’t put this book, and this duet down! I’ll definitely be reading up on Rina Kent’s world!!
I thought Jonathon was an alpha in the previous book.. Well, Kent just took that Alpha dial and turned it up about ten notches. This man rules his kingdom, and anything that threatens to get in his way, he abolishes with an iron fist. I loved seeing his obsession/possession grow stronger for Aurora with each page I turned. That possession/obsession resembled an unspoken/forbidden love between the two. I loved seeing this man break for the woman his soul spoke to.
There were moments my heart felt free and high with so much love, and then the very next moment it felt as if my heart was plummeting to the ground. The array of ups and downs had my heart experiencing a significant amount of emotional whiplash! I couldn’t stop the feelings! Rina Kent definitely had me on the edge of my seat.
Due to this being the end of Aurora and Jonathon’s story, I’ve decided to cut this review short in order to avoid any and all spoilers. Just know, Jonathan is my favorite Anti-Hero of Rina Kent’s! And Aurora may just be my favorite heroine! These two were fire and ice, and there’s no doubt about it… put together they made a heavy amount of steam! I couldn’t put this book down and due to that, I decided to rate this book, and this duet, five stars! I can’t wait to read more from Rina Kent in the very near future!
