Synopsis:

I, Dallas Colter, need a good girl to save my bad reputation.

With too much on my plate, the very last thing on my mind was a relationship—the football draft was looming and dating got in the way. I never understood why my teammates bothered with girlfriends. None of us had the time.

When my sports agent suggested that being seen in public with a respectable girl would be good for my bad reputation, I couldn’t think of a single person to help me out. The only girls I knew weren’t wifey material, and the ones who were? Might catch feelings.

Except Ryann Winters.

Responsible. Sarcastic. Smart. Ryann is perfect but there was one clincher: she was my teammates ex-girlfriend and I had recently been paid by him to dump her.

Not the best start to a fake relationship…

How To Lose At Love is the first book in the Campus Legends Series by Sara Ney! I’m fairly new to the wonderful world of Sara Ney, and I can say this with an honest heart that I’m loving this author’s writing style! She has a way of mixing humor and angst into one love story! I spent the last day and a half marathon reading this novel! I couldn’t put Ryann and Dallas’ story down!

Ryann has hit the rut of her two month relationship. She thought dating a popular football player in college would be what all her dreams are made of. Only the one she’s with, is kind of a dud. Calling it off is the only way out, but before she can make that move. She finds herself, outside of her work, being broken up with by her ex-boyfriends best friend….. He beat her to the punchline, and Ryann isn’t about to let that go.

Dallas is all about doing things all in the name of team work, but never in a million years did he imagine he’d be standing outside of a diner waiting for his teammate’s girlfriend to get off work, just so he can break up with her. But here he is. What Dallas doesn’t factor into the equation is the fact that he may have finally found his match in Ryann. She’s stubborn and feisty, but most importantly, she doesn’t care that he’s projected to be the first draft pick for the NFL. She’s everything he never thought he’d want, and yet on a day to day basis, she’s constantly in his thoughts.

So when Dallas’ agent tells him he needs a life outside of football and recommends he finds a nice girl to settle down with, for media purposes, he turns to Ryann. After all, he does owe her one for breaking up with her…. Dallas is about to learn, falling in love is the greatest risk with even better rewards!

My Thoughts:

So for starters, if you’re a fan of new adult/college romances revolving around sports, particularly football. It can safely be assumed you will probably love this romance. If you also love endless banter and an enemies to lovers type vibe with a fake relationship at the center of the storyline, it may be easy to guarantee you’ll love this one!

My heart is still swooning for How To Lose At Love! It’s going to be a long time before Ryann and Dallas’ story isn’t on my mind! Let’s start with the characters. Dallas Colter is as swoony as they come, but this man has a giant chip on his shoulder. That chip is the NFL. Since he was a boy, his one goal in mind was to get into the NFL. So he’s made it his mission to not let distractions interfere with the mission. Honestly, I loved seeing Dallas’ walls come crashing down. I loved watching him build a friendship with Ryann and then cross the lines into a relationship. When I say, my heart melted, don’t take that as an understatement!

Ryann grew up in the home of two relationship experts/psychiatrists and still she finds it hard to not grow bored with her relationships. She needs endless passion and an intensity that has the power to burn the world down around them. Sadly, she hasn’t found what she wants most. Until Dallas storms into her life with an agenda. I can’t stop laughing at their initial meeting. I loved the twist this novel held and I loved watching Dallas and Ryann grow a relationship from that initially awkward twist! I also loved the fact that Ryann and Dallas’ personalities seemed to fit immediately. There wasn’t a single moment when I thought, yeah this isn’t going to work. Even through all the bickering moments and endless banter, I knew these two were going to make it to the finish line in the most epic ways.

This review is extremely difficult to write without adding spoilers. Let me end this by saying, I found my 2nd favorite read of 2023! How To Lose At Love by Sara Ney is definitely worthy of the 1-click! I hope you all love Ryann and Dallas as much as I did!
